China CPI up 2.4% in NovPublished: 10 Dec 2008 23:30:55 PSTDec. 11, 2008 (China Knowledge) – China’s consumer price index (CPI), the major gauge of inflation, climbed 2.4% in November from a year earlier, easing 1.6 percentage points from 4.0% in October, said the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Thursday.The November CPI climbed 2.2% in urban regions, while CPI in rural areas rose 2.9%, according to the statistics. The statement disclosed the food price jumped 5.9% in the corresponding period, while non-food prices edged up 0.6%. Of the total, the price of meat increased 2% year-on-year, with that of pork down 9.3%. The price of edible oil dropped 0.1% from a year earlier, followed by 11.2%, 5.8% increase of aquatic products and grains, and a 2.1% decline of vegetables.The statement also unveiled that CPI rose 6.3% year-on-year in the first eleven months this year. Of that, CPI was up 6.0% and 6.9% for urban areas and rural areas respectively.Yesterday, NBS announced China’s producer price index (PPI) for industrial products went up 2.0% in November, and rose 2.0% over the Jan.-Nov. period.
